One of the main reasons I wanted iWeb '09 was the FTP support for sites besides MobileMe. They forgot to advertise that it doesn't work with Microsoft servers. WTF!

Elon Grades
I'm trying to help people visualize the changing grade distribution at Elon. Here's an attempt using Google's Motion Graph.

Connecting your iPhone to the Elon University WiFi Network
While the elon-wlan and elon-open networks were once viable WiFi options for using my iPhone at Elon University, with a recent OS update these no longer worked. That left the elon-wpa network. After playing around with it for awhile, I figured out that my username for this network needed to be my e-mail address WITH the @elon.edu at the end.
Colorado Cafe, Lunch Yes, Dinner No
Dinner at the Colorado Cafe was a bit of a disappointment. While the lunch fare (especially the chili) is full of flavor, both dinner entrees I sampled were bland. The buttered salmon was simply that and nothing more. The grilled chicken with broccoli over a parmesan-sauced pasta needed something else and sadly that something was not the almonds that the chef chose. While I had high hopes for this place after such a great lunch and chatting with the very mindful chef, I will not be returning there for dinner. The food I make at home has more zest in it that this.

REI Garage Sale
I was skeptical about the REI Garage Sale. It turns out that they did have several items that I wanted, that fit, and that were marked down about 90% of the original cost, including wool-lined slippers and hiking shoes for myself, a nice sweater for my 6-year-old son, and some clothes for Megan.

Carrburritos
I like the chorizo burritos and the chipotle salsa at Carrburritos in Carrboro, NC. A lot.

LaCie 500 Gb Hard Drive on my Desktop
Problem: A week ago, my LaCie 500 Gb hard drive disappeared from my Mac's desktop.
Solution: After trying several reboots, cables, and even a firmware update on the drive, I started searching the web. It seemed that somehow the power transformer "goes bad" over time. I have no clue how that happens; I should probably assign it as a problem to some physics students. LaCie tech support recommended that "if available, try connecting an alternate power supply of similar specifications to it. Should that work we could send you a replacement and you should still have your data." The trouble was that none of my few remaining friends had the required 12-V, 3-A power supply. Fortunately, LaCie was willing to send me one anyway and this solved the problem. The hard drive showed up immediately.
